Research writing
The Handicraft Market in Guayaquil is a place where people go to learn about and buy handicrafts that are produced
in Ecuador. Despite its economic and cultural importance, the Handicraft Market does not have a graphic image that promotes it at national and international levels, nor does it have visual tools that support the promotion and commercialisation of their products.
During research I detected the disorientation of the visitors inside the building and the lack of guarantee and protection
of the products while being transported to their final destination. These factors reinforced my starting idea of completing the design of packaging and signage for the Handicraft Market, thereby contributing to its corporate image as these
visuals tools influence the process of purchasing handicrafts.
My project was based on the results of an investigation in which, with the use of qualitative and quantitative techniques,
I was able to study traders and consumers in the Handicraft Market to know perceptions, needs and suggestions
regarding the service and products offered by the Handicraft Market.
In the proposal of packaging and signage I used mainly fibres and natural materials that are produced in the regions
of Ecuador and with which our artisans produce handicrafts that are sold in the Handicraft Market in Guayaquil.
Description of Process of Researching
The researching was exploratory and descriptive. My universe and sample of researching were the merchants
(170 persons, totality of the universe) and a sample of 100 consumers (from an indefinite number of national and
foreign people that had already bought products) of the Mercado Artesanal de Guayaquil.
During the four stages of the undergraduate thesis process
I applied different research methods and techniques of researching as explained below:
